Ice-skating in the cultural heart of Amsterdam

An age-old tradition

Skating on Museumplein is nothing new. Between 1887 and 1937, the square was already home to a much-loved ice rink, and in 1893 it even hosted the first official World Speed Skating Championships, won by Jaap Eden.

More than a century later, skating returns to the very same spot. Surrounded by the Rijksmuseum, Concertgebouw and Van Gogh Museum, we are bringing this Amsterdam winter tradition back to life.
